Here is a little more of what I'm working on. A few more sittings and I'm excited to start something new.

This little woodpecker is very symbolic for me and he still visits me on most days here. Hopefully I can bring him to life in this painting, I haven't done any detail on him yet and I think he might not ever visit again if he is not properly done!

I've abandoned my painting from the earlier post and started a new one, on canvas which is different for me. This new painted just started out as a practice sort of thing, testing different techniques I'm learning. Now it has turned into a something serious and the fact that it is on canvas slightly bothers me.
I'm also considering moving this blog over to typepad. It seems so much more difficult to use but its also more pleasing to look at and read. Any suggestions would be appreciated. <3

Finished but not finished

This is what I have been working on. I took this picture from my phone, I have no idea where our camera is so this will due. This was just a sort of test for different techniques and recipes I wanted to try. When they all combined together it ended in quite a mess!
I tried using a mixture of three solvents that was supposed to speed the drying time. The edges look blurry and the whole thing looks fuzzy which is not at all what I was going for. Then I realized that one of the solvents I was using also "diffuses edges". Well, that explains it.
Her head looks huge in this or maybe the arm and hand just look really small?? Either way, I should have worked out the drawing better before I started painting.
So, that's the end of that, on to my next tonight.
I happened to watch The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus last night and loved it!

Wow, two different posts, two days in a row! I just learned how to post on here from my phone so I should be doing that soon hopefully, when the opportunity arrives, although for some reason pictures on my phone get fuzzy when i upload them, it's better than nothing!
Or, maybe not even any pictures but just some random thought or inspiration when I always think 'wow, everyone needs to see this!' and then I remember that most people I know don't really give a shit! Ha! I'm not being negative, but this is why I have this little space on here, just to share things from my world with people who may or may not be interested, and if not then, that's okay too.

So many books, so little time...no really.

So now that my oldest little one is no longer taking naps the only time during the day I have to get anything done or just to catch up on reading, is nighttime when both kids are in bed. Which leaves me, at the most, two hours just because after two hours I can no longer force myself to stay awake.
Lately I have been reading one novel and a few other books I manage to read bits and pieces of throughout the day. So I thought I would share since they are all equally amazing in their own way...

The Margaret Atwood book is so unbelievably good I can't believe I'm just reading it for the first time now! It's disturbing how many similarities there are in the main characters life as a child and my own childhood.

My new painting is 90% complete, although I won't be posting any pictures of it until it's finished. I'm not sure why, I just feel weird about it. Hopefully, I will finish this week and then be back with pictures to share.

A New Obsession

The other night I stumbled upon an artist currently doing an exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art in NYC. Her name is Marina Abramović and she's doing things that make my own and most others art seem, I don't know, boring?? I mean, here she is sitting in a chair, not moving, not blinking, probably barely breathing, staring into a totals strangers eyes, all day for hours at a time....and I'm fiddling with brushes and pencils.

In the picture below, The House With The Ocean View where, she is in full view for 12 days living on a shelf in a gallery in NY. She didn't speak or eat the entire time, except for drinking water. She has said the fasting helped her connect to the audience. Some of which were actually brought to tears starring into her eyes.

One part of the exhibition features two naked performers standing facing each other in a doorway, in which any visitor that wishes to pass them must squeeze through between them.

The whole thing is a retrospective of 5 of her past works performed by other artists. The idea of performance art always seemed odd to me, maybe I thought it was overly dramatic and couldnt be taken seriously...I'm not sure why. Although she is different to me, I'm absolutely intrigued to go and see her and the exhibit in person.

Starting over

Has it really been two years? Geez...so I've deleted everything and I'm starting new. New website, new paintings, everything. I'm finding it extremely hard to get motivated but I'm forcing myself, lets see what happens. Am I the only person who after taking a break from painting and then going back looking at old work, I hate it all! No, really...why is that?
I really would like to hear what others do to get inspired/motivated...so let's hear it...
